Beach Scene WIP - Day 4

Well today began with a visit to the dentist, followed by "Bills" (ever notice how "rich" you feel before you begin paying your bills, then you slide down into "poor" as the balance slowly decreases...), take Danny Boy for a short walk ... and finally back to my drawing!  Yes!

All of the original driftwood pieces are now complete (I may add more random pieces in the picture and for now I removed the two odd shells on the left side - Jim pointed out they were distracting from the subject and I agreed).  After this I sprayed a light layer of workable fixative over the finished area to protect it from smudging as I begin working on other areas.

Next I used an X-acto knife blade and gently traced around the little girl and her sand castle, removed the excess fisker masking plastic and exposed the beach area; leaving the little girl still protected with the remaining fisker.

In this newly exposed area I began by laying down a light layer of beige over all the areas that are sand.  I am keeping a list of the colors I use for the sand so that when I work on the sand castle I'll remember the colors used in the sand, otherwise the little castle might turn out a completely different color.  I plan to use quite a bit of stippling in the sandy area to give the impression of sand.

So, for today we now have .....

 Happy Day!

  1. Karen Anne, the back ground is striking!! Love the rich tones! The sand is coming along very well ;o) I had to look at the last picture to remember where the two shells were. Good suggestion Jim ;o)

  2. Oh I am so glad you like the progress so far Stacy! I'm liking what's happening so far ... hope it continues!

Dentist was fine, this time was just a cleaning ... next time a filling and the "dreaded" shot! (Ouch!)

Tomorrow is the "Eye" doctor .... I'll find out how much my glaucoma, macular degeneration, and cataracts have progressed .... I'm hoping my eye vitamins are working little wonders! Sure don't look forward to getting my eyes dilated though ... wish me luck!

Hope the dilation won't interfere with art! 8~)

    Happy Day Stacy!

I have to admit, I love my dentist. I don't know what I would do without him! I have only known one dentist all my life. I think he might be retiring soon!! He better not! Mom and I threaten him! LOL!

  7. I really like how you did the waves in the background. Detailed but not distracting!

  8. Thanks Debbie, when I first colored them in they were way too bright so I used a little piece of museum putty and kept dabbing at it until it lightened.

Museum putty is used for securing objects to a table, etc. without damage to the item being attached or the piece it is being attached to. It is also a great tool for lifting colored pencil off ... considerably stickier than a kneading eraser.
