Beach Scene WIP - Day 5

Well now, I learned a really important lesson today ... NOT a good idea to do art work with dilated eyes!  I thought a layer of Jasmine would look nice over the beige color - wrong!  Made the sand too yellowish ... I should have pre-tested it on a separate sheet of paper first.  So I walked away from the piece for a couple of hours.

Once my vision started working again I went in and removed as much of the jasmine color as possible with the aid of "Miracle" tape.  Jim had suggested that I put some moss on the driftwood, so I added that to a few of the pieces.  He thought they were too pristine looking as they were and I think it was a good suggestion.

Then I noticed the dents in the paper from one of my earlier funky shells was coming through (a ghost shell) and thought I would disguise that area as a rock.  I may turn the sand dollar into a rock as well, and add a few more stones and small pieces of wood to the scene.
We'll see how I feel about that tomorrow....

Not much to show today ..... I look forward to getting an early start tomorrow!

Happy Day!
Karen Anne

  1. I like the moss! I agree ;o) The stones were a great idea too ;o) I hope your eyes are better ;o) Hugs my friend ;o)

  2. I'll let Jim know .... that will make him happy! Yeah, I think this illustration needs a few more stones/rocks.

I am happy to report, Stacy, there was very little change since last year, yes! My glaucoma and macular degeneration remain in the beginning stages ... but the right eye cataracts have worsened, probably need to have surgery in that eye within the next year. My doctor and I discussed that (procedure, ramifications, etc.) and I am OK with it.

  3. Glad to hear all went well at the eye doctor (despite the impending cataract surgery).

The moss was a great addition!

I must say I am really learning a lot here (ie putty vs. kneading eraser)and even if I never create a color pencil masterpiece such as yours, I truly appreciate all the info you pass along.

  4. Hey Debbie, I'm glad some of these little tips are helpful ... and I happily pass them along.

Well, all I can say is, I'll never be able to design the beautiful beaded masterpieces you create! Your bead work is second to none as far as I am concerned!

  5. Thanks for letting us know about your eyes, my friend ;o)

  6. I honestly think "eyes" are a great worry for most artists .... I know I always pray that nothing goes bad with my eyes or my right hand ... 8)
