For the subject today, I chose a small carved yellow cedar bowl that we picked up on one of our visits to Haida Gwaii (aka Queen Charlotte Islands) in BC many years ago. I've always been a huge fan of Northwest Coast art. This bowl has been carved in the design of a Haida Bear, I cherish this bowl and the memories it stirs.
Well, now its time to start gift wrapping, Christmas Eve is drawing ever closer with each passing day.

Wow this is awesome Karen Anne! I love Northwest Coast Art too! I bet the bowl is wonderful! I would love to see you do some aceos (or bigger) in this style! Deb
ReplyDeleteHey Deb (GeckoStone), Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteYou know, I would love to but, the truth is, I do not have understanding behind the meanings and stories of these beautiful pieces ... each has a story to tell. I can merely appreciate and enjoy the beauty that is given to us by special Northwest Coast artists. It is truly a quite unique and beautiful art form. Years of study and training go into the development of these designs and highly skilled artisans. Many of whom I am lucky enough to call friends.
Wonderful drawing! And what an amazing bowl ;-)
ReplyDeleteHi Debbie! It is a wonderful bowl, in it I have agate rocks that I have collected from various beach combing adventures ... combined, they = many special memories ...
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas friend!
I hope that's a Momma bear with the Baby bear underneath! Beautiful drawing, I like the color scheme, too.
ReplyDeleteLOL! Gloria (NewEnd), you have quite the sense of humor! I had never looked at it from that perspective before! (chuckle, chuckle)
ReplyDeleteHi Karen Anne ;o) I love this drawing so much! I agree with Deb, I would love to see you do some aceo's like this ;o)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the encouragement! Maybe I should turn this sketch into an open edition ACEO? Will think about it ...
ReplyDeleteBig hugs!
