"Colored Pencil Magazine" October Art Challenge #1210 "Kiiro"

The Colored Pencil Magazine posts a colored pencil competition each month, this month's challenge is a photo of a snow leopard gecko, Art Challenge #1210 "Kiiro" (which means yellow in Japanese).

Well, I have been in a creative slump for about the past month and thought this challenge might be just the ticket to charge me back up. I have been working on it for about five days and today I decided it was finally complete. In addition to entering this piece in the October Art Challenge I am also offering prints in my Etsy Shop.

Even if I do not win a prize in this contest, I have already won because I am drawing again!

Take care and be happy!

  3. This is just gorgeous, Karen Anne! You have captured the essence of this beautiful gecko while making the drawing your own. You have a wonderful attitude in that you feel you are a winner already just because you were inspired to draw again! Good Luck!

    1. Hi Debbie! While I was working on the drawing I was wondering "How would Debbie do this with beads, if the contest was open to bead work?" (Crazy ideas like that are always popping into my crazy brain!) and figured, if anyone could create a gecko on a flower in beads, that would surely be Debbie!

      Thank you for your friendship and continued support. I really appreciate all of the wonderful friends I have had the good fortune to meet because of blogging.

  7. What wonderful colored pencil work. Your technique is flawless and the detail in the leaves and the gecko is rendered so beautifully. After seeing what you can do with your colored pencils I'm thinking of sending you all of mine. 3^}

  8. Thank you so much, Maddy Rose, for you kindness! About 8 months ago I purchased two colored pencil books, "Colored Pencil Portraits" by Ann Kullberg and "The Colored Pencil Painting Bible" by Alyona Nickelsen.

    Both of these artists have helped me develop the skills and techniques I am now using with relation to colored pencil drawings. I am so glad they were encouraged to share their knowledge in book form. They are both extremely talented artists.

    You have a great weekend as well!

  9. This is absolutely BRILLIANT!!!!! Truthfully Karen Anne You are so talented, I hope you win but really you are a winner either way as this is such a wonderful piece of artwork! Great to catch up, I've missed you too, and by the way, that photo of Fairy Glen on my post is straight out of my camera, no special effects at all, it was taken on the Isle of Skye and it was a magic spot :)

    1. Oh Shelle, you are sooooooo generous in your comments, thank you! I have loved seeing you grow in your art work and you have inspired me to try new things, thank you so very much.

      Well, I will tell you honestly Shelle ... every time I look at that photo I keep seeing different fairies ... translucent, but they were there never the less. I wonder if others see them too? You are so lucky to have been fortunate to have been able to visit that spot.

      I am so lucky to have you as a friend....
